Biomass Boilers
Wood fuelled heating systems, also called biomass systems, burn wood pellets, chips or logs to provide warmth in a single room or to power central heating systems and hot water storage cylinders.
A stove burns logs or pellets to heat a single room and may be fitted with a back boiler to provide water heating as well. A boiler burns logs, pellets or chips and is connected to a central heating or hot water system.

Ground Source Heat Pumps
Ground source heat pumps use pipes which are buried in the garden to extract heat from the ground. This heat when passed through a heat pump can be used to heat radiators, underfloor or warm air heating systems including hot water in your home.
A ground source heat pump circulates a mixture of water and vegetable based anti-freeze around a loop of pipe (ground loop) which is buried in your garden. Heat from the gound is absorbed into the fluid and then passes through a heat exchanger into the heat pump. As the ground stays at a fairly constant temperature under the surface the heat pump can be used throughout the year, even in the middle of Winter.

Air Source Heat Pumps
Air source heat pumps absorb heat taken from the outside air. This heat can then be used to heat radiators, underfloor heating and warm air convectors including hot water in your home.
An air source heat pump extracts heat from the outside air the same way that a fridge extracts heat from the inside. It can even get heat from the air even when the temperature is as low as -25 deg c. Heat pumps do have some impact on the enviroment as they need electricity to run but the heat they extract from the ground, air or water is constantly being renewed naturally.

Solar Thermal Water Heating
Heat water for your home using energy from the sun.
Solar water heating systems use free heat from the sun to warm domestic hot water. A conventions boiler or immersion heater can be used to make the water hotter, or to provide hot water when solar energy is unavailable.

Rainwater Harvesting
Rainwater harvesting systems (RHS) as you might expect from the name, harvests the rainwater that has fallen freely from the sky, typically onto the roof of your home. In contrast to the humble water butt, which typically captures about 200litres of rainwater, a rainwater harvesting tank can easily filter and store up to 6,500 litres of clean water.
Whats more, while these systems have traditionally been used to water the garden, new technology means a RHS can now be plumbed into your homes existing pipework and the rainwater used to flush toilets and wash clothes. This means that you can reduce water consumption by as much as 40%, according to the Rainwater Harvesting Association, which if you switch to a water meter, will lower your bills as well.
